European Works Councils (EWCs)

The EU’s European Works Council Directive requires large multinational companies, when requested, to set up a permanent European Works Council composed of employee representatives, and then to inform and consult it regularly on “transnational issues”. See EWCs in depth for more information.

Information and Consultation of Employees (ICE) Regulations

The ICE Regulations apply to all employers with 50 or more employees in the UK, requiring them to set up permanent structures for consulting with employees in the UK at the request of employees. It is still possible for most companies to set up voluntary consultation arrangements that are exempt from the Regulations. See ICE Regulations in depth for more information.
